Lüderitz, el lugar más veloz del mundo para practicar el kite surf y el windsurf. Allí tiene lugar cada año la mundialmente famosa carrera de los récords en el trayecto de alta velocidad en la costa de Namibia, en la cual los mejores deportistas del mundo han podido establecer 11 récords mundiales y 55 nacionales desde 2007.
Gracias a la gran aceleración del cálido viento del desierto a través de las montañas cercanas y de la zona de alta presión atmosférica que se genera en contacto con el agua fría del Océano Atlántico, el viento alcanza aquí velocidades altísimas, de hasta 65 nudos (120 km/h).
El canal de competición se mejoró en 2012 para garantizar un rendimiento más alto.
Con el apoyo del Ministerio del Medio Ambiente y Turismo, las medidas de mejora de varios meses de duración desembocaron en un evento visto y seguido por el mundo entero.
Más de 50 deportistas profesionales de todo el mundo participan cada año.
